TMEIC's Shinzo Tamai Senior Fellow at TMEIC Awarded IEEE Fellowship

TMEIC’s Second Award Recognizing Contribution to Motor Drive Control and 3 Level Converter Control

Shinzo Tamai, Senior Fellow in the Power Electronics Systems Division of Toshiba Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corporation (hereinafter, "TMEIC"; President & CEO Masahiko Yamawaki), was awarded the title of Fellow from Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)*, a global association for electrical and electronic engineering, on January 1, 2021. The acknowledgement was in recognition for Tamai’s contribution and track record in the development and practical application of drives for rolling mills, large-capacity static VAR compensators and railway power compensators based on development of motor drive control technology and 3-level converter control technology.

The title of Fellow is the highest level of membership at IEEE and is only granted to 0.1% of its members each year. A total of 282 people worldwide have been recognized with the title in 2021, with 13 coming from Japan (seven from industrial circles). Tamai is the second person at TMEIC to be given the title, following on from Noriko Kawakami in 2018.
