TMEIC Establishes New Factory in the United States, with Production of Large-Capacity PV Inverters Commencing from August 2017

Toshiba Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corporation (hereinafter, “TMEIC”; President & CEO Masahiko Yamawaki) has completed construction of a new power electronics factory in the United States and will start production from August 2017. The new factory in the city of Katy, which is located in the vicinity of Houston, Texas, and situated on 3.24 acres with a floor space of 45,000 sq. ft., has been built as part of the Company’s measures to reinforce its power electronics business in North America.

The current factory expansion together with the existing Houston Factory, which has been in full operation since 2014, will increase the production capacity of PV inverters by approximately threefold.

TMEIC has invested nearly 2.5 billion yen to set up the two factories in the United States and has recorded approximately 2 billion yen in sales in fiscal 2016. Future plan calls for achieving sales of nearly 2.5 fold to 5 billion yen in fiscal 2017 and approximately 5 fold to 10 billion yen in fiscal 2020. TMEIC has also developed large-capacity PV inverters prior to establishing the new factory and will produce large-capacity, high-efficiency PV inverters with a single unit capacity of 3.2MW (conventionally, 2.7MW) at the site. 

The Katy and Houston production facilities will not only provide PV inverters but also other high-quality competitive products such as inverters for driving motors applying the TMEIC Group’s power electronics technology.
