TMEIC Provides Control Equipment for Gas Processing Plant

ROANOKE, Va. (October 11, 2016) – Toshiba Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corporation (TMEIC) has supplied seven large medium voltage (MV) variable frequency drives for a gas processing plant in Eddy County, N.M. The drives control the speed of gas compressors and are used to smoothly start several high-power electric motors. The system provides maximum flexibility and equipment redundancy to maintain continuous plant operation.

The MV drives provide three-phase 4,160 volts ac variable frequency power to the motors. Each drive has an isolation transformer integrated into the cabinet lineup. This multiple compressor application calls for variable frequency drives with power levels varying from 300 hp up to 7,000 hp.

Two equipment houses are used for the drives and switchgear. The first house contains two 7,000 hp drives capable of individually starting six large motors through computer controlled switchgear which has an operator interface to monitor the system status. The other equipment house contains a 3,000 hp drive for starting either of two 3,000 hp motors. Services provided by TMEIC include the installation of a remote drive diagnostics module for system test and commissioning, as well as factory training in Roanoke, Virginia.
